Beautiful for a running watch, the Suunto Quest Running Pack lures runners who place a premium on their watch’s aesthetics. It even comes in three different colors (yellow, black, and blue) instead of the two-color design that seems to be standard among running watches. But the Suunto Quest is not just a pretty watch; it features a heart beat monitor that the company claims is best in its class. Its compatibility with MovesCount expands its utility by leaps and bounds.
Great With Suunto Pods
Suunto’s design is a crowd-puller. It has a special appeal for female runners because of its sleek dial and light weight. The device uses an electroluminescent display that is legible most of the times but may fail under certain running conditions, like at dawn or dusk. The heart rate monitor is accurate and reports HR zones and metrics as you run. You get real-time duration and intensity guidance with the watch alone but to get speed and distance measurements, you will have to dish out extra cash on a Foot POD Mini.
Suunto has designed the Quest Running Pack to be easy to integrate with MovesCount, a popular online sports community. It uses another Suunto pod, the MoveStick Mini to transfer and sync data to it. You can create training programs on the website and save them on your watch. The website tie-up also means that you get deeper training analysis (with EPOC, PTE , and speed) than the watch alone could have offered.
At first glance, its price tag of $299 may seem humbler than an equivalent Garmin but beware that the watch doesn’t come with a GPS. If you don’t have a Suunto GPS pod, you will have to shell out about $150 to purchase it. The functions can be hard to figure out the first time; use YouTube demo videos for help.
